  1. I just wanted to add that, apart from the mess, Cocos palms are probably Australia’s worst environmental weed. They kill flying foxes because the nuts grind down their teeth over several seasons. Flying foxes are important in the pollination of Australian flora, so it really is a disaster.

    There are plenty of far more attractive Australian native palms to choose from, some of which will benefit native pollinators. Bangalow palms are great for that in Brisbane.

    • I hear you. The blog post this pic came from summarised some of that literature. Fully intending to chop ours down but with no access it’s an expensive business! Saving up…

      • You look like handy folk. One way to do it on the cheap is to just get a climber in, and you then deal with the green waste. It would save you around half of the cost, if you have the ability to do that.

        Let me know when you’re ready to have your Cocos palms removed. I’m in Brisbane but I’ll put the word out on the network and get a climber or a tree services business (depending on which way you want to go) to look after you.
